GREENSCIES: Integrating Energy Systems

Green Smart Community Integrated Energy System

Fund

GreenSCIES is funded by Innovate UK, part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) via the Government’s Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund on Prospering From the Energy Revolution.

Project status

Detailed design ongoing, completion: February 2022

Challenge

Enabling the electrification and decarbonisation of mobility, power and heat by integrating and optimising the three vectors to develop a holistic smart local energy system.

Project approach

5th generation ultra-low temperature heat network with distributed small energy centres including heat pumps, solar generation and vehicle battery storage. The energy centres can then be used for Demand Side Response to flex with the electricity grid requirements/tariffs using a sophisticated artificial intelligence control system.

Project Stats

H19 role

H19 is leading the integration of electric mobility into the system, exploring, and designing how to integrate e-mobility across the network. H19 brings expertise on Vehicle to Grid integration, EV charging hardware & control system delivery, and will support the detailed technical design and flexibility modelling.

The project is enabling hangar19 to apply their proven logic with EV charging control and management to additional assets such as heat pumps. H19 will develop, test, and validate the control interfaces between each of the assets in the system through the H19 eMobility & Sustainable Energy Demonstration Centre.
